Lady Canes edge Woodland in Rome Tourney consolation
The Cartersville girls edged Woodland 32-31 Tuesday night at Georgia Highlands College in a consolation game of the 65th annual Rome Holiday Tournament. The win by the Lady Canes was a second of the season over the Lady Cats. The two teams met December 1 at Woodland with Cartersville coming out on top, 48-36. Tuesday night Woodland led 4-3 after a low-scoring first period, but Cartersville held leads of 15-12 and 24-22 at the next two quarter stops before holding on for their one-point victory. Kierra Milline led Cartersville with nine points. Ariana Cochran followed with six. Naijah Evans and Lehla Thomas scored four each. Haley Johnson, London Shaw, and A’mya Davis (photo) added three each for the Lady Canes.
Madgie Robinson had a game-high 14 points to lead Woodland. She was followed by Ansley Evans with five points. Morgan Cooper and Jordan Thompson posted four points each. Nickiah Metcalf and Gracie Styles added two points apiece.
Woodland, now 1-10 on the season, will not play again until facing Cartersville at the Storm Center December 27 at 6 p.m.
Cartersville (4-3) will host Calhoun this Friday night at 6 p.m. and entertains Adairsville Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
