BCRD U10 girls soccer wins state championship
The Bartow County Parks and Recreation Department’s U10 girls soccer team won the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) state championship Saturday afternoon at the Nix Complex Causby Field in Dalton.
To reach the state championship game, Bartow U10 defeated District 7 runner-up Jackson County, 5-2, Friday night and Wayne County 6-0 Saturday morning. Bartow County reached the state tournament as GRPA District 5 champions.
In the state title match, Bartow narrowly edged District 1 champion Columbia County 7-6 in a thriller.
In the win over Jackson County, Ella Edwards scored four goals and Emma Edwards added a goal. Ella Edwards posted two goals in the 6-0 win over Wayne County. Carly Edwards, Emma Edwards, Kiley McMichael, and Zoe Bailey each added a score. In the championship match, Ella Edwards scored three times and Carly Edwards scored twice. Kiley McMichael and Bailey DeBoard both added a goal.
