Friday hoops roundup: Lady Colonels, Tigers earn wins
The Cass girls and the Adairsville boys basketball teams both picked up victories Friday night in local high school basketball action.
The Lady Colonels made easy work of visiting Chapel Hill to remain undefeated through four games while the Tigers edged one of the preseason favorites in Region 6-AAA.
CASS GIRLS 62, CHAPEL HILL 27
The Lady Colonels remained unbeaten Friday night with a 62-27 non-region win over visiting Chapel Hill.
Cass led 15-7 after one quarter and extended their lead to 39-16 by halftime. The Lady Colonels led 58-20 after three quarters.
Sharia Wade led Cass with 16 points. Claire Davis and Payton Stoddard followed with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Alexis Ware added eight points. Londaisha Smith, Ariana Hames, and Brianna Stephenson contributed five points apiece.
Malahne Walker led Chapel HIll with seven points.
The Lady Panthers record stands at 2-2.
Cass (4-0) begins play in Region 7-AAAAA Tuesday at home against Kell at 6 p.m. The Colonels -- who were not in action Friday -- will also host Kell Tuesday.
HIRAM 51, WOODLAND GIRLS 30
The host Lady Hornets improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in Region 7-AAAAA with a 21-point win over visiting Woodland.
The Lady Cats (0-4, 0-1) host Cartersville Saturday at 3 p.m.
NORTH MURRAY 74, ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 42
North Murray had two players — Plemons and Tipton — score in double figures with 21 and 13 points, respectively as the Mountaineers beat Adairsville by 32 points. North Murray improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in Region 6-AAA action.
Adairsville (1-3, 0-2) was led in scoring by Havyn Isaac’s eight points. Coriana McDaniel and Nakiyah Washington scored seven each for the Lady Tigers.
Adairsville hosts Southeast Whitfield Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in a non-region contest.
ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 47, NORTH MURRAY 44
The Adairsville boys knocked off one of the top contenders in Region 6-AAA Friday night at home defeating North Murray 47-44.
The Tigers held a 24-21 edge at the intermission and pushed their lead to 40-30 after three periods before holding on for a three point victory.
Chasien Buiker led the visiting Mountaineers with 14 points. Ladd McConkey added seven.
Mason Boswell led Adairsville with 13 points. He was followed by four Tigers with six points each: Danarous Johnson, Gaven Crunkelton, Savaun Henderson, and Malachi Gardner. Courtney Slocum chipped in five points. Connor Crunkelton scored three and Diego Perez added two points.
The loss was the first of the year for North Murray (4-1, 1-1)
Adairsville (1-1, 1-1) hosts Southeast Whitfield in a non-region matchup Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
HIRAM 54, WOODLAND BOYS 35
Hiram improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in Region 7-AAAAA with their victory over the Wildcats.
Woodland (2-3, 0-1) hosts Cartersville Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
