Lady Colonels win season opener, Colonels fall at home


The Cass High basketball teams tipped off the 2018-19 season Tuesday night at home with the Lady Colonels picking up an opening night win and the Colonels falling to visiting Cumberland Christian.


The Cass girls had ten different players score in their 60-30 victory.


Amber Brittain led the way with 14 points, followed by 11 from Claire Davis.


The Lady Colonels ran out to a 22-9 lead after one quarter and were up 38-13 at the intermission.


Londaisha Smith had eight points for Cass, with Payton Stoddard adding seven. Taryn Callahan scored six, Sharia Wade five, Alexis Ware four, Ariana Hames three, and Brooklyn Whittingtonand Justice Bennett tossed in two points each.


The loss drops the Cumberland Christian girls to 0-3 on the season.


Next for the Lady Colonels (1-0) is another home game with Clarkston November 24 at 2 p.m.



CUMBERLAND CHRISTIAN 83, CASS BOYS 68


The Colonels dropped their season opener Tuesday night in the debut of new head coach Sean Glaze despite a 21 point, nine rebound effort by senior transfer, Jacquez Fountain.


Cumberland Christian (3-1) trailed early, including 23-18 after one quarter, but outscored Cass 22-8 in the second quarter to take a 40-31 lead at the intermission.


The visitors extended their advantage to 65-45 after three quarters and held on in the final period for a 15-point win.


Sophomore Andrew Glaze posted 12 points for the Colonels and sophomore guard C.J. Pipkin totaled five assists in the loss.


Cass (0-1) returns to the hardwoods Monday in the Dalton Thanksgiving Tournament against Cleveland (TN) at 4:30 p.m.
