All four local cheer teams advance to state
All four local high school cheerleading teams were successful Saturday in qualifying for the Georgia High School Association’s 2018 State Sectionals and Championships in Columbus next Friday and Saturday.
Cass, Cartersville and Adairsville all competed Saturday in the West Metro qualifier at University of West Georgia.

Cartersville placed second in Region 5-AAAA to advance. Chapel Hill won the region championship with LaGrange, Central-Carroll, Troup, and Cedartown all qualifying for the state sectionals.
In 6-AAA, Adairsville finished third to advance. The region was won by Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe with Ringgold, Sonoraville, Murray County, North Murray, and Coahulla Creek all qualifying for the state sectionals.
Cass placed fourth among Region 7-AAAAA teams. That region was won by Carrollton with Kell, Paulding County, and Rome earning spots at the state sectionals.
Woodland placed 12th in the all-classification Co-Ed Sectionals Saturday held at Peachtree Ridge High School and also advances to the state finals next weekend. Mill Creek placed first in co-ed with McIntosh, East Coweta, Peachtree Ridge, and Winder-Barrow rounding out the top five.
The Friday schedule at the Columbus Civic Center will include Adairsville and Cartersville competing in the 9 a.m. segment. Cass will compete in an afternoon session slated to begin at 2 p.m. and the co-ed division finals with Woodland will be Friday night with a 7 p.m. start.
The region champions and the top qualifying teams from Friday in each classification will advance to the state finals on Saturday. Class 2A, 3A, and 4A will conduct state championships at 9 a.m. Class 5A, 6A, and 7A will begin at 2 p.m.
