Woodland, Cartersville cross country teams run in prestigious out-of-state meets


The Woodland High School cross country teams competed Saturday at the Great American Cross Country Festival held at the WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary, North Carolina.


The Woodland girls were featured in the Girls Race of Champions won individually by Kelsey Chmiel of Saratoga Springs (NY) in 16:43. The Woodland boys, competing in the Varsity Blue Boys Division placed 26th of 44 teams that included 332 runners. The division was won by Broughton (NC) followed by St. Pius X (GA) and Brentsville District (VA). Zachary Worthman of Clarksburg (MD) won the Blue Boys Division race in 15:51.


The Georgia Class 5A top-ranked Lady Cats were paced by McKenna Trapheagen (19th, 18:18, photo). She was followed by teammates Carli Clymer (52nd, 19:11), Angela Cochran (69th, 19:26), Rylee Evans (101st, 19:54), and Baylee Evans (123rd, 20:09).


John Shropshire led the Wildcats with a 48th place finish in 17:36. He was followed by teammates Dylan Stermer (96th, 18:08), John Forsyth (135th, 18:28), Kobe Cochran (172nd, 18:42), Reece Mitchell (210th, 19:02), Patrick Bollwerk (212th, 19:04), and Ian Van Order (232nd, 19:20).


Woodland will run next Saturday at the Coach Wood Invitational in Whitesburg, GA.




CARTERSVILLE RUNS AT JESSE OWENS CLASSIC


The Cartersville cross country teams competed Saturday in the annual Jesse Owens Classic held at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park in Oakville, Alabama.

The Georgia Class AAAA 7th-ranked Cartersville harriers finished ninth in the Boys Silver Division that included 51 schools and 357 runners. Pearl (MS) won the division, followed by James Clemens (AL), Rossview (TN), Station Camp (TN), and Father Ryan (TN).


Bill Archer led the Hurricanes with a 19th place finish in 17:14. He was followed by teammates Alex Rios (64th, 18:04), Max Florence (69th, 18:09), Parker Breedlove (128th, 18:47), Harrison Banks (129th, 18:47), Jacob Busek (133rd, 18:49), and Colin McCann (140th, 18:54).


The Cartersville girls placed 22nd in the 42-team Silver Division race won by Fort Payne (AL). The Auburn (AL) girls were second, followed by Pelham (AL), Father Ryan (TN), and Pearl (MS) in the top five.


Katelyn Cartwright of Hernando High won the 286 competitor Silver Division race in 19:00.


Cartersville was led by Alex Machado (61st, 22:02). She was followed by fellow Lady Canes Trista Kelly (132nd, 23:31), Vanna Beach (142nd, 23:47), Alice Terry (158th, 24:06.67), Jaxiry Betancourt (159th, 24:06.97), Jocelyn Blanchette (176th, 24:28), and Metzli Munoz (204th, 25:39).


Next for Cartersville is the MileStat Invitational next Saturday in Mechanicsville, Virginia.
