Lady Canes blank North Cobb; Woodland streak halted by Lassiter
Cartersville softball earned a non-region shutout victory Friday night over visiting North Cobb, 8-0. The Lady Canes scored five times in the first and added three runs in the second for all the runs they would need.
Colbi Ballard (photo) tossed a complete-game, three-hitter with three walks and three strikeouts for the Hurricanes. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and four RBI to pace the offense.
Presley Edwards also had two hits including a double and one RBI. Cio Seigler doubled and AnnaKate McElhaney had the other Lady Canes’ hit.
Cartersville also took advantage of the Warriors on the bases with four steals. Ballard, Emma Frothingham, AnnaKate McElhaney, and Hope Short all swiped bases in the win.
The loss dropped North Cobb to 8-15 on the season.
The Lady Canes improved their season mark to 9-11 and play at Chapel Hill on Monday.
LASSITER HALTS LADY CATS’ STREAK
Woodland softball had an 11-game win streak stopped by Class AAAAAAA Lassiter Friday night, 13-1 in four innings.
The visiting Trojans scored in each inning and pounded out 13 hits.
Woodland managed a single run in the second inning on an RBI double by Skylar Chappell. Bella Carnes had the only other Lady Cats’ hit.
Lassiter improved to 17-4 on the season.
The loss leaves Woodland with a 17-6 season mark. The Lady Cats return to Region 7-AAAAA action Monday at Rome at 5:30 p.m. Woodland hosts Hiram Tuesday and plays at Paulding County on Thursday.
