Canes' XC fifth at Carrollton Invite, Woodland sixth


The Cartersville boys ran fifth and Woodland was sixth Saturday at the 27-team Class 4A-5A Carrollton Orthopedic Invitational at Carrollton High School. Cass also competed in the event placing 24th.


Pace Academy won the division 58 points ahead of second place Carrollton. McIntosh placed third and Union Grove was fourth.


Dominic Macias won the boys 4A-5A race on the state championship course in 17:12.

Bill Archer led Cartersville with an 11th place individual finish in 18:09. He was followed by fellow Hurricanes Alex Rios (18th, 18:37), Parker Breedlove (34th, 19:19), Jacob Busek (43rd, 19:35), and Colin McCann (46th, 19:37).


Woodland was led by John Shropshire who ran 21st in 18:48. Other scoring runners for the Wildcats included Dylan Stermer (24th, 18:59), Kennedy Stinson (26th, 19:07), John Forsyth (27th, 19:12), and Kobe Cochran (35th, 19:19).


Prem Patel (70th, 20:14) was the top runner for Cass. Bryce Kresho (109th, 21:25), Logan Van Stinj (147th, 23:18), Craigory Chatman (160th, 24:14), and Brenden Hickman (177th, 27:45) had scoring runs for the Colonels.


The Woodland girls’ lineup did not include its normal top runners, but the Lady Cats still placed seventh in the 21-team Class 4A-5A Carrollton Orthopedic Invitational Saturday on the state championship course at Carrollton High School. Cartersville finished eighth.


McIntosh won the girls’ race with five runners in the top six. McIntosh was followed by Union Grove, Pace Academy, Columbus, Starrs Mill, and East Paulding.


Megan Uszynski of McIntosh won the individual race at 20:07.


Rylee Evans led Woodland with a seventh place finish in 20:48. She was followed by Erica Boatner (23rd, 23:10), Marlee Bowles (30th, 23:42), Avery Hull (35th, 24:28), and Rayevan Freeman (82nd, 26:43).

Cartersville got scoring runs from Alex Machado (25th, 23:16), Trista Kelly (52nd, 25:04), Vanna Beach (54th, 25:09), Alice Terry (60th, 25:23), and Jaxiry Betancourt (63rd, 25:45).


Cass did not field enough runners for a team score, but had Olivia Flynn finish 79th in 26:33.


Next for Woodland is the Warpath Invitational next Saturday at Boling Park in Canton.


Cartersville will host the Wire2Wire Invitational at Dellinger Park next Saturday.
