Woodland volleyball earns split, Cartersville drops non-region road matches
Woodland volleyball edged Sprayberry 25-21, 25-22, but fell to Cherokee 25-12, 25-14 Thursday night at home in non-region matches.
In the win over Sprayberry, Macey Vaughn finished with nine assists, eight digs, and a pair of aces. Caroline Gore added five kills, eight digs, and a service ace. Sydney Molinaro totaled five kills, six blocks, two digs, and one ace.
Gore had two kills and three digs in the loss to Cherokee. Molinaro added five blocks for Woodland.
“We played hard all night,” offered Woodland head coach David Condon. “ We just didn’t execute as well as I would have liked.”
Woodland squares off with host Cass Saturday morning at the Bartow County Championship Tournament.
CARTERSVILLE LOSES NON-REGION ROAD MATCHES
Cartersville volleyball dropped a pair of non-region matches Thursday evening at North Paulding, losing to North Cobb Christian and the host Wolfpack in straight sets.
North Cobb Christian took a very close battle 25-22 and 25-18. North Paulding downed Cartersville 25-18 and 25-12.
Against North Cobb Christian, Nedu Evans finished with 14 kills, eight digs, and two aces. Grace Hunter contributed 23 assists and three aces. Anna Mathis and Anna Grace Brock had 14 and 12 digs, respectively. Bekah Stevens was credited with six kills.
“We played well and battled hard through most of the first set,” said Cartersville head coach Dutch Cothran. “It was close until their little run at the end. They are a talented team and we just never really got it going in the second set.”
In the loss to North Paulding, Evans totaled nine kills and four digs. Hunter had 16 assists. Stevens totaled four kills and two aces and Mathis contributed 11 digs.
“We lacked some focus and energy in the first set (vs. North Paulding),” added Cothran. “It was a rough night, but we were able to get some players some valuable experience.”
Cartersville (8-11) opens the Bartow County Championship Tournament against Adairsville Saturday morning at 9 a.m. The tournament is being hosted by Cass.
