Local youth football kicks off with two Bartow teams playing in NGYFL
The 2018 local youth football season got underway this past Saturday with a pair of Bartow County teams playing their opener at the Old Cass High School (BCCA campus) on Grassdale Road.
The two local teams are participating in the Northwest Georgia Youth Football League (NGYFL) against other teams throughout the northwest Georgia region.
Bartow County 9U defeated Boynton 40-0, but the Bartow County 12U NGYFL team fell to Summerville, 14-6.
BARTOW COUNTY 9U 40, BOYNTON 0
Jakez Baldwin led the way offensively for Bartow with 156 yards passing and two touchdown passes. Baldwin also finished with 25 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown. Jovani Bautista-Jackson totaled 155 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Nasier Bennett had 90 yards receiving with a touchdown catch and Lance Tippett Jr. added a 55 yard touchdown reception. The Bartow 9U defense was led by Maddox Raughton with a sack and six tackles. William Thomas and Jorain Bailey totaled five tackles each. Deion Winters and Kaiden Kent added four tackles apiece and Chris McClendon had three.
Bartow 9U will play Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe this Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Ringgold High School.
SUMMERVILLE 14, BARTOW COUNTY 12U 6
Bartow County led 6-0 at the intermission, but Summerville posted a pair of second half touchdowns to win both teams’ season opening game, 14-6.
Jamarion Pullum finished with 65 yards rushing and 45 yards receiving to pace the Bartow offensive attack. Xavier Darby threw for 85 yards with a 40-yard touchdown connection with Pullum. Caleb Cooley added 65 yards rushing and Kelson Mitchell had 21 yards rushing for the locals.
The Bartow 12U defense was led by Ethan Moser with seven tackles. Zach Wallace, Gavin Johnson, and Ethan Brown each had five stops.
Bartow County will look to bounce back Saturday night at 6 p.m. when they play at Ringgold.
