Lady Canes snap skid with home win over Darlington
Cartersville softball snapped a four-game skid Monday night and evened their season record by defeating visiting Darlington 8-2 in a non-region game.
The Lady Canes may have struggled scoring runs during their recent stretch, but broke away Monday night with six runs over their final two offensive frames as they out hit the Lady Tigers ten to four.
Colbi Ballard (7 IP, 2R, 1ER, 4H, 1BB, 4K) tossed a complete game for the Hurricanes to collect the pitching win. She also drove in two runs with a triple at the plate.
Cio Seigler doubled twice in a 3-for-3 performance. She scored two runs and drove in one. AnnaKate McElhaney had two hits with one RBI. Emery Jenkins, Lauren McElhaney (sac fly RBI), Presley Edwards, and Mattie Johnson (RBI) added one hit each.
The loss dropped Darlington to 2-8 on the season.
Cartersville (6-6) will now prepare for the Bartow County Championship Tournament. The Lady Canes will face Cass Friday night at Hamilton Crossing Park in one of two semifinal games. Adairsville and Woodland will also play Friday.
The third place game will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Woodland High School with the championship game to follow at 1 p.m.
