Trapheagen leads Lady Cats to Ridge Ferry XC title, Woodland boys second
The Woodland girls won and the Woodland boys were runner-up Saturday at the 2018 Ridge Ferry Cross Country meet in Rome.
McKenna Trapheagen (1st, 18:27) of the Lady Cats also won the individual title and was followed by teammates and top-ten finishers Angela Cochran (2nd, 18:53), Rylee Evans (4th, 19:12), Carli Clymer (5th, 19:19), Baylee Evans (8th, 19:25), and Cheyenne Spinks (9th, 19:52).
According to Woodland girls' coach Matthew Landolt, the Lady Cats ran the fastest team time in school history and Trapheagen also set a new school record.
The 27th annual race in Rome attracted 30 girls high school teams and 30 boys high school teams that included 215 girls runners and 263 boys competitors.
The Lady Cats had six runners place in the top nine as they dominated the competition. Woodland finished with 20 points and outdistanced second place Etowah (55) by 35 points. River Ridge was third, followed by host Rome and Calhoun to round out the top five.
In the boys race, Kennesaw Mountain edged the Woodland boys by only three points. Sequoyah placed third, followed by Gilmer and Rome.
The Wildcats were led by John Shropshire who placed tenth (17:11). He was followed by teammates Dylan Stermer (14th, 17:30), John Forsyth (26th, 17:56), Reece Mitchell (34th, 18:14), Kobe Cochran (38th, 18:20), Patrick Bollwerk (55th, 18:41), and McKinley Chappell (79th, 19:07).
Woodland will host the Run at the Rock Invitational on Saturday, September 1 at Woodland High School.
