Woodland hosts Adairsville Thursday night on the “banks of the Etowah” at Wildcat Stadium as the two high school football teams kick off a weekend of pre-season, scrimmage action for local teams.

The Wildcats and Tigers will tangle in a matchup that was originally scheduled for Friday night before the two schools were forced to move the schedule up one day. A shortage of available football officials forced the change with kickoff now set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Cartersville and Cass also have scrimmages this week — both scheduled for Friday evening at 7:30 p.m.

The Hurricanes will travel to Dalton while the Colonels will host Pepperell as all the local teams get a taste of action under the lights before the regular season cranks up the following week.

As usual, all the scrimmages will utilized “controlled” formats and generally include all levels — varsity and sub-varsity — for each of the programs.

The 2018 regular season gets underway Friday, August 17 with three of the four locals teams in action.

Cartersville hosts Allatoona and Adairsville entertains Chattooga in 7:30 p.m. kickoffs. Woodland will start the regular season at Southeast Whitfield.

Cass does not play in the opening weekend, but will host Adairsville in the Colonels’ first game Friday, August 24.
