Baseline-1 '05 heads to SEBL playoffs as top seed
The SEBL Metro A-League wrapped up its 2018 regular season Saturday with a slate of four games.
Baseline-1 '05 completed the regular season circuit with an unblemished 8-0 mark, followed by Summer Hill-1 (7-1), Wood Elite Training (6-2), and Dream Chasers (6-2).
The playoffs begin Sunday.
All SEBL games are played at the Summer Hill Complex - JH Morgan Gym located at 129 Aubrey Street in Cartersvile.
SEBL Metro A-League Game Summaries for 8-4-2018:
Wood Elite Training 109 The OG’s 62 Wood Elite downed a combined 21 three pointers and in the process completely destroyed the out-matched OG’s from the opening tip. Shaquille Hopson led The OG’s, who finished the regular season winless, with 21 points, while Brian Griffin had 16 and Markos Samuels 15. For Wood Elite, Jonathan Mason fueled the perimeter onslaught, hitting 9 of 14 treys, on his way to a game-high 28 points, while Al Muteba battled his way to 24, Quinton Wood 22, Isaac Thomas 11 and Darrell Wilkins 10. Wood Elite, finished 6-2 and secured the 3rd seed in the tournament and will take on #6 Franklin Ford Wednesday evening at 7:00pm. The OG’s, the #10 seed will try to knock off #7 seed Bartow Braves on Sunday at 5:00pm.
Summer Hill-1 100 Shaw Industries 85 Summer Hill-1 got out to a really good start and took a 60-35 cushion into the half, but Shaw picked up their energy and wound up making things somewhat interesting by reducing their deficit to as little as nine in the waning seconds of the game, but Summer Hill-1 was able to hang on. Newcomer, Jalen Lovett, burned the nets for 35 in his debut, while Chaz Phillips and Eugene King each had 13, followed by Damon Mitchell and Bailey Rooper, who each netted 11. Markel Williams had 25 for SH1, as Davy Fisher had 18, Jeremiah Shaw 16 and Cade Archer 14. Jonathan Fowler and JP Pritchett each had 11, as Summer Hill-1 finished the regular season 7-1 and will enter the playoffs as the 2nd seed and will await the winner of the game between the #10 OG’s and #7 Bartow Braves, which will be played on Sunday afternoon at 5:00pm. Summer Hill-1 will take the court on Wednesday evening at 8:00pm. Shaw Industries concludes the season at 2-6 and as the #8 seed will meet #9 Toyo-1 on Sunday night at 8:00pm, for the right to take on #1 seeded Baseline-1.
Baseline-1 90 Brighter Days 72 A roster-depleted Brighter Days squad couldn’t keep pace with Baseline-1, as AJ Mosby exploded for 36, coming on 15 of 23 shooting from the floor, including six trey buckets. For Brighter Days, Marcus Dortch notched another solid night with 20 points, while Shaquille Calhoun had 16 and Cory Warn 15. Cyrus Banks and Dewayne Jupiter each contributed 10, as Brighter Days finished up their summer campaign at 4-4 and will now enter the playoffs at the #5 seed, where they will face off against #4 seeded Dream Chaserz, in very interesting quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday night at 9:00pm. Baseline-1, who put a stamp on a 2018 SEBL Regular Season Title, will await the winner of #8 Shaw vs. #9 Toyo-1 play-in contest. Baseline-1 will play that quarterfinal game Wednesday night at 9:00pm.
Franklin Ford 91 Toyo-1 86 Franklin Ford trailed 54-44 at the half, but JR Smith got cranked up again in the second period and wound up downing 33 points, to help his team work back in the game and steal the win and send Toyo-1 to the playoffs winless. LD Strickland led Toyo-1 with 21 points, while Bryan Owens 17, Josh Chrisitan 14, Eddie Melvin 14 and Sam Taylor 12. As the #9 seed Toyo-1 will take on #8 Shaw Industries on Sunday at 8:00pm. JR Smith, who has averaged 35 points over the last two games, was supported by Talique Cochran who had 24 and Jozell Payne’s 20. Franklin Ford, who improved to 4-4 to end the season, will draw a tough task, as they take on #3 Wood Elite on Wednesday evening at 7:00pm.
