Cartersville Little League 12U stays alive at state tournament
Cartersville Little League 12U sent sixteen men to the plate in the third inning and scored twelve runs in the frame on their way to an 18-8, five-inning victory over Belvedere Little League Tuesday night in the Georgia Little League state tournament in Cobb County.
The big inning for Cartersville came when they were trailing 6-1.
Cartersville scored a single run in the first inning, but Belvedere batted around and posted six runs in the second inning prior to the Cartersville third inning outburst.
Belvedere got as close as 13-8, but Cartersville ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with five more runs.
Aiden Ray homered twice for Cartersville with a grand slam in a 4-for-4 performance that included seven RBI. Miles Owen also homered with two doubles, a walk, and four RBI.
Caleb Daniel contributed a pair of doubles and three RBI. Connor Brasfield also had two doubles. Easton Elrod (RBI), Grant Knight (RBI), Landon Heath, and Geoffrey Gore (double) had the other Cartersville base hits.
Cartersville utilized four different pitchers to secure the win with Knight (1.1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 3K) picking up the victory in relief.
Gore (1.2 IP, 6ER, 5H, 2BB, 3K) started on the mound for the locals. Heath (1 IP, 1R, 0ER, 0H, 2BB, 2K) and Ray (1 IP, 1ER, 1H, 3BB, 2K) worked the final two innings for Cartersville.
Cartersville Little League 12U, now 2-1 in the double-elimination state tournament, stays alive for another elimination game Wednesday night at 6 p.m. against the host team, Smyrna Little League.
Smyrna (1-1) lost to Northern-Columbus Tuesday night, 1-0, after winning their tournament opener Sunday over Warner Robins, 9-3.
