Bartow County 10U wins Georgia Little League Softball state championship
The Bartow County Little League 10U softball all-stars captured the 2018 Georgia Little League state championship Wednesday morning with a 2-0 shutout of Oconee County in the title game.
For Bartow 10U, it was their fifth straight win in the double-elimination tournament after dropping their first game of the tournament last Sunday to Northern-Columbus, 10-0.
Working their way through the loser’s bracket on Monday and Tuesday, Bartow collected elimination game victories over Toccoa (2-1), Vine Ingle (10-9), and Northern-Columbus (10-0) to reach the championship round against unbeaten Oconee County Tuesday afternoon.
Bartow 10U then topped Oconee County 6-2 Tuesday to force a winner-take-all championship game on Wednesday morning.
Haley Collum went the distance in the pitching circle for Bartow County in the title win. Collum, who also went 2-for-2 with a double and scored a run on offense, allowed only two hits and fanned seven in her six innings of work. Kamryn Smith and Elizabeth Hartsfield added doubles for the Bartow County offense. Nakayla Evans and Alivia Joslin had the other base hits for the locals. Evans stole a base and scored a run. Brie Patterson and Joslin each contributed one RBI.
With their state title in hand, Bartow County 10U softball now prepares for the 2018 Little League Tournament of State Champions July 20-22 in Clarksville, Tennessee.

In other Georgia Little League Softball state tournament action Wednesday morning at Hamilton Crossing Park, Harris County Little League won the 12U state championship game over Dudley Little League 4-3 to advance to the Little League Softball Southeast Region Tournament that begins July 26 in Warner Robins.
Results for Bartow County Little League and Cartersville Little League provided by the respective leagues and Georgia Little League Baseball and Softball. Bartow County Recreation Department and Cartersville Recreation Department baseball and softball teams participating in Georgia Recreation and Parks Association are reported to Bartow Sports Zone by the respective recreation departments and presented on Bartow Sports Zone by Play It Again Sports at 410 Cherokee Place in Cartersville.
