Bartow 12U softball falls in GRPA District 5 finals
The Bartow County 12U softball all stars finished runner-up in the GRPA District 5 Tournament hosted by Rome/Floyd County Parks and Recreation.
After falling to Murray County on Saturday, Bartow needed to win against Whitfield County to ensure a rematch.
Bartow benefited from several walks by Whitfield pitchers en route to a commanding 14-1 victory, in three innings.
Chelsea Bates got the win in the circle for Bartow allowing one run on three hits, walking one, and recording four strikeouts.
Bates, Chacy Gosselin, and Kelsey Gleason had hits for Bartow.
In the rematch with Murray, Bartow jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but could not push anymore runs across.
Murray scored in every frame and defeated Bartow 11-3 in five innings.
Bates took the loss in the circle, allowing eleven runs on seven hits with six walks, and striking out five.
Hayley Dillow led Bartow at the plate with two hits, Bates, Heather Gilbert, Gosselin, Gleason, and Savannah Mayfield each recored one hit.
Bartow now turns its attention to Little league Softball Tournament play beginning this Saturday at Hamilton Crossing Park.
Results for Bartow County Recreation Department and Cartersville Recreation Department baseball and softball teams participating in Georgia Recreation and Parks Association are reported to Bartow Sports Zone by the respective recreation departments and presented on Bartow Sports Zone by Play It Again Sports at 410 Cherokee Place in Cartersville.
