Cartersville Little League 10U team takes District 1 title

Cartersville Little League 10U sprinted out of the gates Wednesday night to take an early 12-0 lead and went on to defeat Bartow County 10U 15-3 to win the Georgia Little League 10U District 1 championship at Hamilton Crossing Park.


Cartersville completed the double-elimination tournament with three straight wins, defeating Bartow twice and Rockmart one time.


An eight-run top of the first inning set the tone for the night and Cartersville added four more runs in the top of the second for a commanding lead. Cartersville posted three more runs in the top of the fourth and then held on for their 12-run victory in four innings.


All three Bartow County runs came in the bottom of the fourth.


Isaiah Martin (4 IP, 3R, 1ER, 6H, 2BB, 3K) tossed all four innings for Cartersville to pick up the pitching win. Reed Ezell (2 IP, 12R, 0ER, 6H, 1BB) suffered the pitching loss for Bartow although he did not allow an earned run. Bartow committed three first inning errors and had two more defensive miscues in the second inning. Isaac Burnett (2 IP, 3ER, 3H, 3BB) completed the final two innings on the mound for Bartow County.



Martin and Lyle Woody led the Cartersville attack with two hits, one RBI, and three runs scored each. Carter Rice drove in three runs on the night with a fielder’s choice and a two-run single. Asa Mitcham and Will Camp had one hit and two RBI apiece. Brayden Channell and Peyton Emery added one hit and one RBI each. Logan Buchanan contributed one RBI on a bases loaded walk in the fourth and stole two bases in the game.


Bartow County totaled six hits in the game. Colton O’Neal and Joseph Thorne had doubles. Dutch Hernandez added a triple. Isaac Burnett had one hit and one RBI. Barrett Fuller and Dayson Ward had the other base hits. Ezell drove in a run in the fourth with a groundout.


Bartow County, who defeated Rockmart to reach the championship round, finished the tournament with a 1-2 mark.


Cartersville advances to the Georgia Little League 10U State Tournament that begins July 7 at Dudley Little League, just west of Dublin, GA.
