Cass, Adairsville girls blank opponents
The Cass girls soccer team added a non-region win Friday night at North Springs and the Adairsville girls blanked region-rival Coahulla Creek Thursday evening in Tiger Valley.
CASS GIRLS 2, NORTH SPRINGS 0
The Lady Colonels (11-7, 7-2 Region 7-AAAAA) picked up a non-region win Friday night at North Springs.
The Lady Spartans (8-7-1, 4-3) are a state playoff qualifying team and will represent Region 6-AAAAA as a four-seed.
Logan Vermaas scored in the 35th minute and again in the 65th minute for Cass. The first goal came off a feed from Leidi Toribio. Brittney Ochoa assisted on the second goal.
Lady Colonels' keeper Brianna Bullock picked up her sixth shutout of the year in net.
Cass hosts Calhoun (5:30pm) Tuesday and Heritage-Catoosa Thursday (5pm) in a pair of non-region matches.
ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 5, COAHULLA CREEK 0
Emily Collum scored four, second half goals Thursday night as the Lady Tigers blanked region rival Coahulla Creek 5-0 in Tiger Valley.
Gillian Johnson scored the other Adairsville goal and assisted on three of Collum’s goals.
The Lady Tigers (8-2-2 overall, 5-2 6-AAA) play at North Murray Monday night.
COAHULLA CREEK BOYS 8, ADAIRSVILLE 2
The visiting Colts scored five first half goals on their way to an 8-2 win over Adairsville.
Dani Carrillo scored the two Tigers’ goals on penalty kicks in the second half.
Adairsville plays Sonoraville Saturday in Tiger Valley.
NORTH SPRINGS BOYS 7, CASS 1
Kaleb Speights scored the only goal for the Colonels Friday off an assist from Anthony Robledo in a 7-1 non-region loss at North Springs. Cass keeper Isai Romero had 11 saves in net and Samuel Reyes had four.
Cass (6-9) returns to the pitch Tuesday at home against Calhoun.
SHAW BOYS 2, CARTERSVILLE 1
Class AAAA playoff qualifier Shaw took a 1-0 lead Friday night at Cartersville before the Canes’ Pedro Ghanem tied the match 1-1 with a goal in the 26th minute.
The visiting Raiders scored the game-winning goal in the second half for a 2-1 non-region win.
Cartersville (9-4, 4-0) travels to Cedartown Monday for a Region 5-AAAA contest and will play out of region at Coahuila Creek on Tuesday before hosting LaGrange on Thursday.
CARROLLTON GIRLS 2, WOODLAND 1
Region 7-AAAAA leading Carrollton found the going tough at Woodland Friday night, but did defeat the Lady Cats 2-1.
The visiting Lady Trojans took a 2-0 lead in the first half with Woodland’s Molly Plott scoring the Lady Cats’ goal. Tierra Feanny moved the ball toward the goal on the play and a touch pass from Kaitlin Winnenberg led to the score with approximately 10 minutes remaining in the game.
The Lady Cats (6-8-1, 3-5) failed to qualify for the state playoffs and will conclude the 2018 season Thursday at home against Haralson County.
