Cass drops non-region game at Rockmart
The Cass baseball team lost a non-region game Saturday at Class AA 2nd-ranked Rockmart 11-3.
The Colonels struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning, but the host Yellow Jackets answered with a pair of matching runs in the bottom of the inning and led 7-2 by the end of the third.
Cass narrowed the margin to 7-3 in the fifth, but Rockmart put the game away with a four-run sixth inning.
Ty Floyd led the Rockmart offense with three doubles and four RBI. Four Jackets’ pitchers limited Cass to only three runs on six hits and a walk.
Blaine Ingram (3 IP, 7R, 4ER, 7H, 3BB, 3K) suffered the pitching loss for Cass. Parker Hardin (3 IP, 4R, 2ER, 3H, 1BB, 2K) worked the final three frames on the mound for the Colonels.
Steven Spell had a double and one RBI for Cass. Austin Baker drove in a run with a hit as did Logan Nelson. Ingram, Gavin Young, and Bryson Markley had the other Cass base hits.
Rockmart improved to 12-5 with their win.
Cass (9-13, 3-6) returns to Region 7-AAAAA action Monday at Rome at 5:55 p.m.
