Eight Canes' hurlers combine for shutout


Eight Cartersville pitchers logged one inning each and the Hurricanes utilized all 25 players in a 6-0 shutout of Pepperell Saturday at the Rome Braves’ State Mutual Stadium in Rome.


Pepperell managed only five hits in the game and Canes’ pitchers issued only one walk while fanning five.


Cohen Wilbanks, Gage Morris, Kolby Adams, Luke Schiltz, Reece Thompson, Levi Ayers, and Curtis Wilkes each tossed one inning apiece for Cartersville.


On offense, Cartersville took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and added to their lead in each of the next three frames.


Anthony Seigler drove in two runs on two hits including a double. John Reed Evans had two RBI with one hit. Mason Barnett drove home a run with one hit. Preston Welchel doubled, Devin Warner tripled, and Garrett Shelton and Ian Inaba had the other Canes’ hits. Jake Gooch drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.


The loss drops Pepperell’s season mark to 7-9.


Cartersville (15-5, 4-0) travels to Cedartown Monday at 5:30 p.m. and hosts Central-Carroll and Sandy Creek Tuesday and Friday.
