Canes blank Chapel Hill, Lady Canes rally for win
The Cartersville boys soccer team blanked Chapel Hill 5-0 in a Region 5-AAAA Tuesday at the Cartersville Soccer Complex.
The Hurricanes led 1-0 at halftime on a header goal by Pedro Ghanem off a corner kick.
Ghanem scored goals twice in the second half to complete his hat trick. Houston Read and Javi Morillon also added Canes’ goals. The final Cartersville tally was on an own goal.
Cartersville (7-3, 4-0) hosts Heritage-Catoosa Thursday evening.
CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 5, CHAPEL HILL 3
The Lady Canes reeled off five straight goals Tuesday night in a come-from-behind 5-3 Region 5-AAAA win over Chapel Hill at the Cartersville Soccer Complex.
Cartersville’s Courtney Rhea scored in the first half to cut Chapel Hill’s lead to 2-1 at the intermission.
Marissa Mowry tied the game at 2-2 with an early second half goal abd Rhea gave Cartersville a 3-2 lead. The Lady Canes then took a 5-2 advantage on penaty kick goals by Kalyn Donegan and Mowry.
Chapel Hill (6-5, 3-1) added a final goal, but the Hurricanes held on for the win.
Cartersville (5-5, 3-1) hosts Heritage-Catoosa Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
