GHC softball splits doubleheader at South Georgia
Georgia Highlands softball split a pair of games Sunday at South Georgia, losing 8-3 in the opener but winning the second game 8-7 in Douglas.
The Chargers led 2-0 early in Game 1, but succumbed to an eight-run fourth inning by South Georgia.
In Game 2, the host Hawks took a 6-0 lead through three innings before Georgia Highlands scored six times in the fourth and added two more runs in the seventh for a come-from-behind one-run win.
Shay Sullins (6.2 IP, 5ER, 10H, 1BB, 2K) was the winning pitcher for GHC in the second game. Micayla McCoy (0.1 IP, 1ER, 2H) entered in the seventh to retire the final out.
In the opening loss, the Chargers managed only three hits. Second baseman Hannah Willis and first baseman Alia Booth had one hit and one RBI each.
In the Game 2 win, Kindell Reeves had two hits and two RBI. Booth had two hits and one RBI. Wills drove in two runs with a double and three walks and Lexi Palazzo finished with a hit and two RBI. Mya Adams added a triple.
Georgia Highlands (19-12, 7-3) currently sits in second place in the GCAA one game behind Georgia Military. The Chargers step out of conference Wednesday at USC Salkehatchie and will play at West Georgia Tech Saturday evening.
