Cartersville soccer teams split matches at Sandy Creek
The Cartersville High School soccer teams split a pair of Region 5-AAAA matches Friday night at Sandy Creek.
The Canes blanked the Patriots 9-0, but the Lady Canes lost 4-2.
CARTERSVILLE BOYS 9, SANDY CREEK 0
The Hurricanes built a 4-0 lead in the first half on a pair of goals by Pedro Ghanem and single tallies by Eilan Abeja and James Chege. Brady Craig contributed a pair of first half assists as Cartersville took control early.
In the second half, Jonathan Cruz assisted on goals by Jair Ramos and Ghanem. Craig scored a goal off a feed from Abeja. Ghanem assisted on a Ramos goal and Joel Zazueta assisted on a goal by Houston Read.
The loss dropped Sandy Creek’s season mark to 1-6-1 overall and 1-3 in region play. Cartersville (6-4, 3-0 Region 5-AAAA) hosts Chapel Hill Tuesday.
SANDY CREEK GIRLS 4, CARTERSVILLE 2
Sandy Creek led 3-0 at halftime, but the Lady Canes narrowed the margin to 3-2 with approximately 10 minutes remaining in the game.
Micah Vance and Kalyn Donegan scored the Cartersville goals.
The Lady Patriots (3-5, 2-2) responded with an insurance goal in the final minutes to secure the Region 5-AAAA match.
Cartersville (4-4, 2-1) entertains Chapel Hill Tuesday at 6 p.m.
