Tuesday soccer roundup: Cartersville, Cass sweep region foes
The Cartersville and Cass soccer teams swept region opponents Tuesday night in local soccer action, while the Adairsville teams split region games with Murray County.
The Lady Canes and Hurricanes topped Central-Carroll. The Lady Colonels and Colonels won by identical 1-0 scores at East Paulding.
CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 5, CENTRAL-CARROLL 0
The Lady Canes got two goals from Micah Vance and one each from Janet Zazueta, Kalyn Donegan, and Rebecca Hays in a 5-0 blanking of Central-Carroll in a Region 5-AAAA match Tuesday evening at home.
The loss drops Central to a 2-6 overall record and 0-2 in region play.
Cartersville (4-4, 2-0) plays at Sandy Creek Friday evening at 6 p.m.
ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 8, MURRAY COUNTY 0
Emily Collum scored a hat trick and added three assists. Gillian Johnson scored twice and Chloe Cochran, Sayde Johnson, and Emily Emmons scored one goal each as Adairsville blanked Murray County Tuesday 8-0.
Havyn Isaac earned the shutout in net.
Murray County falls to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in Region 6-AAA.
The Lady Tigers (4-1-2, 2-1) host Sonoraville Friday.
CASS GIRLS 1, EAST PAULDING 0
The Cass girls soccer team defeated East Paulding 1-0 Tuesday evening in a closely contested Region 7-AAAAA match.
Following a scoreless first half, Cass scored the game’s only goal four minutes into the second half.
Lupita Pineda scored her second header goal of the season off a corner from Logan Vermaas.
Senior keeper Briana Bullock recorded her second shutout in a row and her third of the season.
The loss drops East Paulding to 1-5-3 overall and 0-4 in Region 7-AAAAA.
The Lady Colonels (5-7, 3-2) host Hiram Thursday at Doug Cochran Stadium.
ROME GIRLS 8, WOODLAND 1
The Lady Wolves improved to 4-0 in Region 7-AAAAA and 4-5-1 overall with an 8-1 win over visiting Woodland Tuesday.
The Lady Cats (5-6-1, 2-4) travel to Hampton Friday to play a non-region match against Dutchtown.
CARTERSVILLE BOYS 5, CENTRAL-CARROLL 1
The Hurricanes led 2-1 at halftime Tuesday night on goals by Pedro Ghanem and Grant Farmer — both assisted by James Chege.
Jair Ramos then added a pair of second half goals for Cartersville. One off an assist from Javi Morillon and the other on a penalty kick after Chege was taken down in the box.
Cartersville’s final goal came in the form of an own-goal following a Cartersville cross.
The Lions dropped to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in Region 5-AAAA.
Cartersville (5-4, 2-0) travels to Tyrone to face the Sandy Creek Patriots Friday night in another Region 5-AAAA match.
CASS BOYS 1, EAST PAULDING 0
Carlos Perez scored the game’s only goal off an assist from Slomi Orozco in the final five minutes as the Colonels and keeper Isai Romero (seven saves) blanked East Paulding 1-0 in Dallas.
The loss dropped the Raiders to 1-7-1 overall and 0-3 in Region 7-AAAAA action.
Cass (4-7, 3-2) hosts Hiram Friday evening.
MURRAY COUNTY BOYS 2, ADAIRSVILLE 0
Adairsville keeper Nic Jackson had 11 saves in the Region 6-AAA contest, but the Tigers fell to visiting Murray County Tuesday night, 2-0.
The Indians (5-3-2, 3-0) scored both goals in the first half.
Adairsville (2-4, 2-1) hosts Sonoraville Friday night.
ROME BOYS 3, WOODLAND 0
Rome scored all three goals in the second half as the Wolves won at home, improving to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in Region 7-AAAAA action.
Woodland (4-5-1, 3-2) hosts Villa Rica next Tuesday.
