Tigers win pitchers duel with Woodland


Three early runs were enough for Adairsville pitcher Kyler Pelfrey Thursday evening as the Tigers defeated visiting Woodland, 3-1.


Adairsville scored a single run in the first inning and two more in the third to take a 3-0 lead. The Wildcats posted their only run in the fourth.


Both pitchers were solid with complete game performances.


Pelfrey struck out nine and allowed only two hits with no walks.


Woodland’s Kenny Jinks went all six innings for the Wildcats, scattering five hits and a walk. He fanned 12.


Hunter Hice had two hits for the Tigers including a double and one RBI. Pelfrey drove in a run with a triple. Garrett Mishoe and BJ Roper had the other Adairsville hits.


Chris Mills and Dylan Webb had the Woodland hits.


Woodland (6-6) hosts Pickens next Tuesday at 5:55 p.m. and will open Region 7-AAAAA play at home Thursday against Cass.


Adairsville (7-3) hosts North Cobb Saturday at 1 p.m. before opening Region 6-AAA play next Tuesday at home against Coahulla Creek.
