Adairsville rally falls short at 3rd-ranked Carrollton


Adairsville scored twice in their final frame and had the tying run on base, but the late rally fell short at Carrollton Monday night, 7-6.


Although Adairsville took a first inning lead and scored in each of the first three innings, the Class 5A third-ranked Trojans answered with runs in each of the first four offensive frames.


Carrollton (8-3) led 3-2 after one inning, 4-3 after two, and 7-4 through four innings.


Starting pitcher Will Carney (3 IP, 4ER, 9H, 0BB, 3K) picked up the win for the Trojans with Ryan Anderson (1.2 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 3K) and Ty Murray (1 IP, 2R, 1ER, 1H, 1BB) closing out the game on the mound.


Caden Gibbs (3 IP, 6ER, 10H, 0BB, 4K) was tagged with the pitching loss for Adairsville. Garrett Mishoe (3 IP, 1ER, 2H, 2BB, 4K) retired the final nine outs and kept the Tigers in the game.


Asa Awbry and Charlie Lanier combined for five hits and four RBI for the Trojans. Chris Gaiter added three RBI with a double.


Kyler Pelfrey had four hits for the Tigers. Hunter Hice (RBI), Mishoe, Corey Nation, and BJ Roper contributed two hits each. Gibbs (RBI) and Noah Dutton added one hit.


Adairsville (6-4) hosts Woodland Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and North Cobb Saturday at 1 p.m.
