Lady Colonels blank Coahulla Creek; Colonels edged in OT after dramatic rally
The Cass girls soccer team blanked visiting Coahulla Creek Friday night at Doug Cochran Stadium behind three goals by Logan Vermaas while the Cass boys team were edged by the Colts.
CASS GIRLS 6, COAHULLA CREEK 0
Logan Vermaas finished with a hat trick for the Lady Colonels as they blanked visiting Coahulla Creek Friday night in non-region action.
Brittney Ochoa, Leidi Toribio, and Michelle Escobar added one goal each. Lupita Pineda assisted on three of the goals. Briana Ochoa and Hailey Henson contributed one assist each.
Cass improved to 2-4. The Lady Colts are now 4-3.
COAHULLA CREEK BOYS 6, CASS 5 (Overtime)
The Cass boys soccer team lost in heartbreaking fashion Friday night at home to Cohulla Creek, 6-5.
The visiting Colts scored the game-winning goal with only eight seconds remaining in the second, five-minute overtime period for the non-region victory.
Coahulla Creek broke open a tight game with three quick goals in the final seven minutes of the first half to take a 4-1 lead to the intermission, but it was Cass that mounted an improbable second half comeback.
Carlos Perez scored the Colonels’ first half goal that tied the score 1-1 and after Cass fell behind 5-1 with just over 20 minutes remaining in the game, they rallied to send the game into extra time.
Javier Duarte scored in the second half to narrow the Colts’ lead to 5-2 and Julio Medina collected a rebound off a corner kick and put it in the back of the net to cut the Colts’ advantage to 5-3 in the 64th minute.
Cass scored on an Alex Cabanas’ header off a free kick less than ten minutes later to make the score 5-4 and Felipe Albarran scored the regulation equalizer with one minute remaining.
Coahulla Creek improved to 3-1.
Cass (1-5) hosts Carrollton Tuesday night.
