Lady Tigers tie Southeast Whitfield, Cass teams swept at Sonoraville
The Adairsville girls soccer team battled Southeast Whitfield to a 3-3 draw Wednesday night in Dalton while the Cass girls and boys teams both lost at Sonoraville.
ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 3, SOUTHEAST WHITFIELD 3 (tie)
A clutch penalty kick save by Lady Tigers’ goalkeeper Havyn Isaac with approximately five minutes remaining in Wednesday night’s game protected a 3-3 draw for the Adairsville girls soccer team at Southeast Whitfield.
The Lady Tigers led 3-0 midway through the first half on a pair of goals by Emily Collum and one from Emily Collum, but the Lady Raiders (4-1-1) made it 3-1 by halftime and added two more goals in the second half.
Cat Wheeler assisted on one of Collum’s goals and Gillian Johnson assisted on Cochran’s tally.
Adairsville (2-0-1) hosts Bremen next Tuesday, Central-Carroll Wednesday, and Haralson County Friday, March 2.
SONORAVILLE GIRLS 5, CASS 3
The Lady Colonels were tied with Class AAA 10th-ranked Sonoraville at halftime, 2-2, and narrowed the Lady Phoenix lead to 4-3 in the second half but lost Wednesday evening in Gordon County, 5-3.
Lupita Pineda and Logan Vermaas had first half goals for the Lady Colonels. Hailey Henson and Vermaas assisted on the scores.
Sonoraville took a 4-2 advantage in the second half, but Leidi Toribio narrowed the lead to 4-3 off a feed from Vermaas before the Phoenix closed out the scoring with less than ten minutes remaining.
Sonoraville improved to 2-1-1.
The Lady Colonels (1-4) host Coahuila Creek Friday at 5:30 p.m.
SONORAVILLE BOYS 5, CASS 3
Cass led early, but the host Phoenix reeled off three consecutive goals in the latter stages of the first half to lead 4-2 at halftime on their way to a 5-3 victory.
Carlos Perez scored on a penalty kick for the Colonels opening goal that tied the score 1-1 and Julio Medina gave Cass a 2-1 lead off an assist from Anthony Robledo. Sonoraville rallied, however, to take a two-goal lead into the intermission.
Robledo added a second half goal off a feed from Perez that made the score 4-3, but Sonoraville added a late goal to seal the win.
Cass keepers Isai Romero (9) and Vladislav Walls (2) combined for 11 saves.
Sonoraville improved to 5-1 on the season.
Cass (1-4) hosts Coahuila Creek Friday at 7:30 p.m.
