Canes fall at Blessed Trinity, 2-1

Third-ranked Cartersville committed a pair of defensive miscues in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday night that cost the Canes a 2-1 loss at Class AAAA top-ranked Blessed Trinity.

Cartersville shortstop Devin Warner hit a leadoff, solo home run in the top of the seventh that tied the game 1-1, but a single by D.J. Radtke started the Titans’ half of the inning and the two infield errors pushed him across.

Radtke -- who drove in the Titans' first run with a single in the fourth inning -- and Trey Baker both had two hits for Blessed Trinity. Jake Smith picked up the pitching win by recording the final two outs of the seventh.

Mason Barnett (4 IP, 1ER, 2H, 2BB, 5K) started on the mound for the Hurricanes. Levi Ayers (2 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 4K) entered in the fifth inning and Anthony Seigler (0 IP, 1R, 1H) suffered the hard-luck loss in the seventh after only throwing three pitches.

Warner (double, homer) finished 2-for-3 for the Canes. Seigler had the only other Cartersville base hit.

Blessed Trinity improved to 3-0 on the season.

Cartersville (2-2) plays Sprayberry Wednesday at LakePoint in a 5:55 p.m. start and will host Rome and Sequoyah Saturday at Richard Bell Field starting at 11 a.m.
