Local recreation hoops teams advance Saturday at GRPA District 5 tourneys
The 2018 Georgia Parks and Recreation Department (GRPA) District 5 youth basketball tournaments started this weekend with three local teams advancing. Six other age groups begin their District 5 tournaments next week.
BARTOW 10U BOYS DEFEAT PAULDING COUNTY
The 10U Bartow County boys won 42-6 over Paulding County Saturday at the Houston Suggs Youth Facility at Hamilton Crossing Park in their Georgia Parks and Recreation Association District 5 tournament opener.
Jamarcus Bryant and Anterrius Hames led Bartow with 13 points each. Jakai Baldwin and Jordyn Woods pitched in 4 points apiece.
The win advances Bartow 10U boys to the District 5 semifinals Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Hamilton Crossing Park against Dalton. The district championship game will be Thursday night at 8 p.m. at the same site.
BARTOW 8U BOYS 38, ROME/FLOYD CO. 8
The 8U Bartow County boys defeated Rome/Floyd County 38-8. Individual scorers were not made available. 8U Bartow plays Paulding County Monday at 8 p.m. in the District 5 semifinals. The 8U boys championship game is scheduled for Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. All 8U boys tournament games are being played at Hamilton Crossing Park.
CARTERSVILLE 12U BOYS 47, BARTOW COUNTY 42
The Cartersville 12U boys all-stars eliminated Bartow County in the opening round of their GRPA District 5 tournament Saturday in Dalton, 47-42.
Braylon Inman led Cartersville with 16 points. Isaac Cunningham followed with nine. Ahmar Thomas added six and Chandler Mathison five points for Cartersville.
12U Cartersville advances to play Paulding County Monday at 7:45 p.m. at Edwards Park in Dalton in the tournament semifinals. A win sends Cartersville to Wednesday night’s championship game at 7:45 p.m. again at Edwards Park.
LOCAL 12U GIRLS TEAMS FALL
The two local 12U girls teams from Cartersville and Bartow County both lost first round district games in Dalton Saturday. Dalton defeated Bartow 40-7 and Whitfield County defeated Cartersville 63-4.
OTHER AGE GROUPS BEGIN NEXT WEEK
Bartow County 8U girls open tournament play Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. at Edwards Park Community Center in Dalton against Whitfield County. The winner of that semifinal will play Rome Thursday night at 6:15 p.m. in the District 5 championship game — also at Edwards Park.
The Bartow County 10U girls also begin District 5 tournament play Tuesday night at Edwards Park in Dalton. Bartow plays Rome #2 at 7:30 p.m.
The Cartersville and Bartow County 14U boys begin their district tournament Monday night at the LakePoint Champions Center in Emerson. Cartersville 14U plays Rome at 6:30 p.m. Bartow County faces Paulding County at 8 p.m.
17U boys action begins Tuesday at the LakePoint Champions Center. The Bartow County all-stars play Cobb County at 6:30 p.m. and Cartersville squares off against Paulding County at 8 p.m. The 14U and 17U boys finals are scheduled for Thursday at LakePoint in Emerson.
