Cass wrestling reaches state semifinals

The Cass wrestling team won its first two matches at the 2018 GHSA Class AAAAA State Duals Championship Thursday at the Macon Centreplex to advance to the state semifinals.

The Colonels defeated Decatur 66-9 in the first round Thursday afternoon and then defeated Harris County in the state quarterfinals Thursday night, 49-15.

Cass will take the mat Friday at 5:30 p.m. to face Ola in one of the two state semifinals. Defending state champion Buford takes on Locust Grove in the other semifinal.

The two winners Friday will wrestle for the state championship Saturday at 4 p.m.

Semifinal losers will fall into the wrestle back portion of the bracket with an opportunity to place third and no lower than a tie for 5th in the state.

Buford defeated Miller Grove and Carrollton to reach the semifinals. Locust Grove had wins over Riverwood and Veterans. Ola defeated Statesboro and Clarke Central.
