Canes grapplers fourth at Area 5-AAAA Duals

The Cartersville wrestling team placed fourth Saturday at the Area 5-AAAA Championship.

Troup defeated Central-Carroll in the finals and those two teams will represent the league at the state duals tournament Thursday through Saturday in Macon.

Cartersville lost to Troup to open the tournament, but defeated Chapel Hill to reach the consolation finals where the Canes fell to LaGrange.

Jonathan De La Cruz was 3-0 in his matches Saturday at 182-pounds. Garret Geros (170-pounds) was 2-0. Jalen Thomas (138-pounds) and Tyler Earick finished the day 2-1.

The Canes will now focus on the traditional (individual) format for the remainder of their 2017-18 season with those Area Tournaments coming up later in January.
