Friday hoops: Woodland, Cartersville, Adairsville boys garner region wins


Three boys teams picked up region wins Friday night in local high school basketball action.


Woodland, Cartersville, and Adairsville were the victors. In girls action, Woodland picked up a region victory over visiting East Paulding.

 

WOODLAND BOYS 84, EAST PAULDING 81


Jaylen Ballard led Woodland with 19 points — 13 in the second half — as the Wildcats defeated visiting East Paulding Friday night.


Woodland trailed 43-35 at halftime and 64-51 after three quarters before rallying for their three-point win in the final eight minutes with a 33-point outburst.


Silas Johnson led the Raiders (3-8, 0-5 Region 7-AAAAA) with a game-high 23 points.


Rounding out the scoring for Woodland were Connor Gallagher with 13, DJ Robinson 11, Hunter Johnson nine, Dawson Wilkins eight, Peyton Roberts seven, Justice Carter five, plus Dustin Ivie, Charles Norman, and RJ Beaubrun with four points each.


Woodland (4-10, 2-5) plays at Kell Tuesday night following the girls game that starts at 6 p.m.




CARTERSVILLE BOYS 70, CENTRAL-CARROLL 59


T.J. Horton scored a game-high 25 points, Jaylon Pugh added 15, and JKobe Orr 13 as the 10th-ranked Hurricanes won a Region 5-AAAA game at Central-Carroll Friday night.


Cartersville led 17-13 after one period, 35-23 at half, and 51-37 through three quarters.


Perignon Dyer and Isaac Gridley rounded out the Canes’ scoring with nine and eight points, respectively.


Josh McClendon scored 20 points to lead the Lions. Jarrod Jackson added 14 for Central (8-6, 0-2).


Cartersville (8-2, 2-0) plays at LaGrange Saturday with tip scheduled for 5:30 p.m.




ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 70, CALHOUN 68


The Tigers won a back-and-forth battle with rival Calhoun Friday night at home, 70-68, to even their season mark at 7-7 and Region 6-AAA mark at 3-3. Calhoun led 31-27 at the intermission, but the Tigers took a 43-41 lead heading into the fourth quarter.


Davis Allen and Bralin Bartin paced Calhoun (1-9, 1-1) with 15 and 14 points, respectively.


Cody Henderson led Adairsville with 26 points, followed by Hunter HIce with 13 and Ethan Belcher 10. Mason Boswell added six points. Gaven Crunkelton and Jessie O’Kelley added three. Malachi Gardner scored two points for the Tigers.


The Tigers play at Rockmart Saturday night.




CARROLLTON BOYS 56, CASS 50


The Colonels lost back-to-back games for the first time this season in falling at Region 7-AAAAA rival Carrollton Friday night, 56-50.


Tim Green led Carrollton with 18 points. Jeffrey Hodges scored 14 and Marcellus Lochet 12 for the Trojans (10-4, 3-2).


Cass stayed within striking distance for most of the game, but trailed at each stanza. The Trojans led 14-9 after one quarter, 28-20 at intermission, and 37-24 through three quarters.


Ethan Carter and Carter Hedden scored 11 points each for Cass. Ashton Burley and Mark Chester followed with nine each. Justice Hayes added eight and Steven Spell two for the Colonels.


Cass (9-5, 3-3) hosts Rome Tuesday night.




WOODLAND GIRLS 56, EAST PAULDING 51


A second half rally, led by senior Whitney Harris, propelled the Woodland girls to a come-from-behind, region win Friday night over East Paulding.


Harris scored 21 of her game-high 22 points in the second half as the Lady Cats narrowed the Lady Raiders lead to only two points — 39-37 — heading into the final eight minutes.


From there, Woodland outscored East Paulding 19-12 in the final period for their first region win of the year.


Woodland led after one period 12-9, but East Paulding took a 26-21 advantage to the intermission.


Kimbelyn Black led the Lady Raiders (2-8, 0-5) with 20 points.


Woodland (3-8, 1-5) snapped a four-game skid and travels to Kell Tuesday for a 6 p.m. start.




CENTRAL-CARROLL GIRLS 54, CARTERSVILLE 39


Janae Jackson scored 19 and Nyah Howton 16 as Central-Carroll (8-5, 1-1) defeated Cartersville Friday night in Carrollton, 54-39. Cio Siegler led Cartersville with 12 points. Kalli Scheff and Aliyah Sellers followed with six each. Addie Smith and Jada Cunningham each scored four. Amaya Davis finished with three points. London Shaw and Naijah Evans scored two apiece.


Cartersville (5-7, 0-2) plays at LaGrange Saturday at 5:30 p.m.




CALHOUN GIRLS 69, ADAIRSVILLE 57


The Lady Jackets outscored Adairsville 22-4 in the second quarter Friday night and then held off the Lady Tigers down the stretch for a 69-57 Region 6-AAA win at Adairsville.


Erin Davis had a game-high 23 points to lead Calhoun (5-6, 2-1). Maggie McBrayer followed with 14 and Railey Greeson 11 for the Lady Jackets.


Josie Summerville and Nakiyah Washington led Adairsville with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Havyn Isaac scored 10 and Breeana Wilson nine.


Adairsville (2-12, 1-4) plays at Rockmart Saturday night at 5 p.m.




CARROLLTON GIRLS 48, CASS 35


The Lady Colonels fell behind 12-8 after one quarter, trailed 26-16 at half, and 37-24 after three quarters in a 48-35 loss at 10th-ranked Carrollton.


The Lady Trojans improved to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in region play.


Lyric Curtis and Kyla Michienzi scored eight points each for Cass.


The Lady Colonels (9-5, 3-3 Region 7-AAAAA) host 9th-ranked Rome next Tuesday at 6 p.m.
