Colonels, Canes cruise to region wins
The Cass boys took control early and cruised to a 54-29 Region 7-AAAAA victory Tuesday night over visiting Woodland.
The Wildcats led 5-4 after one quarter, but the Colonels took a 22-10 lead by halftime and led 45-16 through three quarters.
Carter Hedden and Justice Hayes led Cass with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Ethan Carter scored eight points. Ashton Burley and Markeldrick Powell added five points apiece. Steven Spell contributed four and Braxton Benham three for the Colonels.
Jaylen Ballard scored nine points to lead Woodland scorers. Charles Norman posted five points. Dustin Ivie and Justice Carter scored four points each. RJ Beaubrun added three points. Kyjuan McLendon and Connor Gallagher scored two points apiece.
Woodland (2-10, 0-5) hosts East Paulding Friday night.
Cass (9-3, 3-1) plays at Rome Wednesday and at Carrollton Friday.
CARTERSVILLE BOYS 60, CEDARTOWN 32
The Cartersville boys started Region 5-AAAA play Tuesday night at home with a 60-34 victory over Cedartown.
The Canes led 17-10 after one quarter, 29-16 at the intermission, and 41-26 through three periods.
JKobe Orr had a game-high 15 points for Cartersville. He was followed by Jaylon Pugh with nine and T.J. Horton and Perignon Dyer with eight points each. Luke Schiltz scored seven. Marko Dudley added four. Isaac Gridley scored three points. Marqual Coaxum, Taywuan Johnson, and Grant Harris contributed two points apiece.
Cedartown (6-6, 0-1) was led by Zahquan Frazier with 14 points. Trevon Wofford added nine for the Bulldogs.
Cartersville (8-2, 1-0) plays at Central-Carroll Friday night.
