CPRD youth football teams sweep GRPA District 5 titles


Cartersville 10U football all-stars

The Cartersville Parks and Recreation Department 8U, 10U, and 12U youth football all-stars each won Saturday to secure 2017 Georgia Parks and Recreation Association (GRPA) District 5 championship titles at Dellinger Park.


Defense ruled the day for Cartersville. All three Cartersville teams shutout their championship game opponent.

8U CARTERSVILLE 12, DALTON 0



The Cartersville 8U youth football all-stars blanked Dalton Saturday 12-0 at Dellinger Park to win GRPA District 5 and advance to the GRPA state championship game.


Dixon Lindsey threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Clint Hosea and Jovani Bautista-Jackson sprinted to a 36-yard touchdown run to account for Cartersville’s scoring.


Dalton finished District 5 play with a 3-1 mark.


In addition to Saturday’s win, Cartersville (3-0) had District 5 wins over Gordon County 33-0 and Calhoun 26-6 on their way to the title.


The GRPA state championship game is scheduled for Saturday, December 2 in Savannah’s Grayson Stadium at 10 a.m. against the District 2 champion.






10U CARTERSVILLE 6, BARTOW COUNTY 0



Brodie McWhorter scored the game’s only points on a one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter as 10U Cartersville edged Bartow County 6-0 Saturday at Dellinger Park.


Bartow had the ball first and goal on the Cartersville eight yard line following a turnover in the second quarter, but Cartersville’s defense led by Bear McWhorter and Landon Heath throughout the day kept Bartow out of the end zone.


Bartow (3-1) had it’s season come to an end, but had wins in District 5 play over Calhoun 20-14, Gordon County 39-0, and Dalton 18-8.


Cartersville (3-0) also had District 5 wins over Gordon County 44-0 and Calhoun 30-16 and now advances to the GRPA state championship game in Savannah.


The title game is scheduled for Saturday, December 2 in Grayson Stadium at 12 noon against the District 2 champion.





12U CARTERSVILLE 36, DALTON 0



Khristian Lando scored on touchdown runs of 7-, 52-, and 23-yards to help lead Cartersville to a 36-0 shutout of Dalton in the 12U GRPA District 5 championship game.


Trevor Harris added a 41-yard touchdown run, Brelace Williams tossed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Trevor Harris, and Tae Cochran converted three PATs for Cartersville.

Cartersville (3-0) also had GRPA District 5 wins over Gordon County 46-0 and Calhoun 28-16.


Dalton finished play in District 5 with a 2-2 mark.


The GRPA state championship game is scheduled for Saturday, December 2 in Savannah’s Grayson Stadium at 2 p.m. against the District 2 champion.
