Cass wrestling wins second tourney of young season
The Cass wrestling team won a highly-regarded tournament for the second weekend in a row by capturing the Blackbeard Duals title at Allatoona High School Saturday evening.
The Allatoona tournament regularly includes some of the top competition in North Georgia and this year’s event was no different.
Cass had wins over Union Grove and Sprayberry to finish first in their pool. The Colonels then defeated Etowah and North Paulding to reach the finals where they edged Gilmer for the tournament championship.
Cass 52, Union Grove 29
Cass avenged a state tournament loss to last year’s state runner-up in Class 5A. Jake Johnson, Derrick Smith, Hunter Reese, Nick Mills, Tyler Pilcher, Kameron DePasquale, Kendall Arnold, Noah Hoffmeier, Tripp Breeden and Seven Richards each had wins for the Colonels.
Cass 78, Sprayberry 6 The Colonels won by pin in 13 of 14 matches.

Cass wrestlers with wins included: Tripp Breeden, Seven Richards, Jake Johnson, Derrick Smith Hunter Reese, Nick Mills, Tyler Pilcher, Alex DePasquale, Noah Hoffmeier, Rett Moore, and Cameron Hill.
Cass 50, North Paulding 27
Beau Smith, Tripp Breeden, Seven Richards, Derrick Smith, Hunter Reese, Kameron DePasquale, Kendall Arnold, Blake Carrington, Noah Hoffmeier, and Rett Moore recorded wins for the Colonels.
Cass 37, Gilmer 34
In an exciting finals victory, Cass winners included Tripp Breeden, Seven Richards, Derrick Smith, Nick Mills, Tyler Pilcher, Kameron DePasquale, and Noah Hoffmeier.
Next for Cass will be the Etowah Duals on Tuesday at Etowah High School. The Etowah tournament field includes many state-placing teams and state champions from last season.
