Adairsville, Cass will square off Saturday for 2017 Komatsu Bartow County Fast Pitch Softball Champi
Adairsville defeated Woodland 6-2 and Cass knocked off Cartersville 8-3 in Friday night’s semifinals of the 2017 Komatsu Bartow County Fast Pitch Softball Championship at Stars Complex.
As a result, Woodland will play Cartersville Saturday at 11 a.m. for third place. Cartersville and Cass will square off for the tournament championship Saturday at 1 p.m. Both games will be at the Stars Complex just off U.S. 41 in Cassville and will broadcast live on WBHF (100.3 FM / AM1450). Pregame coverage will begin at 10:45 a.m.
In Friday’s opener, Adairsville took a 4-0 lead after two innings against Woodland and pushed their lead to 6-0 in the fifth inning. The Lady Cats scored two runs in the sixth, but would get no closer.
Loren Harris (7 IP, 2ER, 5H, 1BB, 4K) picked up the pitching win for the Lady Tigers. She also had two hits and drove in a run.
Emily Collum homered and doubled for the Lady Tigers with two RBIs. Alexa Varner had two hits. Sadye Johnson, Victoria O’Neal, Cortni Jacobs, and Makenzie Gwin each had one hit for Adairsville.
Ansley Evans had two hits and drove in a run for Woodland. Bella Carnes, Morgan Bailey, and Skylar Chappell had the other Lady Cats’ hits. Caroline Higdon added one RBI.
Adairsville improved to 8-4 with the win. Woodland slipped to 5-5.
In Friday’s second game, Cartersville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, but Cass scored four runs in the bottom half of the third and three more in the fourth to take a 7-3 lead.
The Lady Colonels then added an insurance run in the sixth for an 8-3 final.
Cass pitchers Haley Owens (3 IP, 3ER, 5H, 0BB, 1K) and Taylor Gibson (4 IP, 0R, 4H, 2BB, 2K) shared the Lady Colonels’ duties in the circle for the victory.
Alexia Najarro and Owens (RBI) led Cass with two hits each. Sarah Moore drove in two runs and had one hit, while Sarah Fox drove in a run with a double.
Lauren McElhaney had two hits, including a double and one RBI for Cartersville. Hope Short also had two hits including a double and two RBIs. Paris Poston contributed with a double. Colbi Ballard, Presley Edwards, Jolea Prokop, and Kalli Scheff had the other Lady Canes’ hits.
Cass improved to 2-10 on the season. Cartersville fell to a 3-7 mark.
