Woodland moves over .500 mark; Cass and Adairsville drop region games


Woodland softball broke open a tight game with a five-run bottom of the sixth inning Tuesday night as the Lady Cats defeated visiting Paulding County, 7-1.


Sarah Baynard (7 IP, 1ER, 4H, 4BB, 5K) tossed a four-hitter and struck out five Patriots to earn the pitching victory for Woodland.


Caroline Higdon had two hits and one RBI for the Lady Cats. Jordan Duck drove in two runs and had one hit. Ansley Evans (RBI), Morgan Cooper (RBI), Audrey Morris, Morgan Bailey, and Bella Carnes had the other Woodland hits.


Paulding County fell to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in Region 7AAAAA.


Woodland (5-4, 2-3) hosts Cartersville Wednesday at 5:30pm and plays at Villa Rica Thursday at 5:55 pm in another region game. The Lady Cats will then face Adairsville Friday at 5:30 pm in the opening round of the Komatsu Bartow County Championship Tournament at Stars Complex. The third place game and championship game of that tournament are Saturday at 11am and 1pm at the Georgia Highlands College home field.





EAST PAULDING 10, CASS 4


Cass softball took a 4-0 lead early Tuesday night at home against visiting East Paulding, but the Lady Raiders scored 10 unanswered runs to defeat the Lady Colonels 10-4 in a Region 7AAAAA matchup.


East Paulding pitcher Maggie O’Kelley limited Cass to five hits and two earned runs while picking up the win.


Kylie Manning had three hits and one RBI for the Raiders. Four other East Paulding batters had two hits each and Kaitlyn Walden drove in four runs.


Sarah Moore had two hits for Cass. Sarah Fox drove in two runs with a double. Maggie Collum and Jaden Musacchio added one hit each. Haley Owens added one RBI.


Haley Owens (7 IP, 10R, 6ER, 13H, 2BB, 1K) took the pitching loss for the Lady Colonels.


Cass (1-10, 0-5) plays at Carrollton Thursday at 5:55 pm and will play Cartersville Friday at 7 pm in the opening round of the Komatsu Bartow County Championship at Stars Complex.





HARALSON COUNTY 4, ADAIRSVILLE 1


Adairsville (6-5, 2-4) softball lost Tuesday night at Haralson County, 4-1.


Haralson is now 4-7 overall and 2-4 in Region 6AAA.
