Cartersville Little League (12U) falls in state title game


Peachtree City National Little League took an early lead and held off a late challenge by Cartersville Little League Tuesday night in Peachtree City for a 17-7 win in a winner-take-all game for the Georgia Little League State Championship.


Peachtree City took a 9-3 lead through three and one-half innings before Cartersville struck for a four-run fourth inning to narrow the margin to 9-7.


Peachtree City then added eight more runs in the top of the fifth to put the game away.


Cartersville pitchers were roughed up for 16 hits including six home runs and 13 earned runs.


Tyler Shelton (2.1 IP, 9R, 8ER, 7H, 2BB, 3K) started on the mound for Cartersville and was tagged with the loss. Jakiyon Porter (2 IP, 5ER, 6H, 2BB, 1K) and Isaac Seigler (0.2 IP, 3R, 0ER, 0BB, 1K) also pitched.


Cartersville got a pair of first inning homers from Drake Carver and Chris Roper that tied the game early 3-3. Porter had two hits including a double. Martavius Cochran drove in a pair of runs with one hit.


Cartersville won three games at the state tournament to reach the championship round. Cartersville defeated Dudley Little League, Athens Little League, and Peachtree City National. Their two losses in the double-elimination tournament were both to Peachtree City.


Peachtree City National advances to the Little League Baseball Southeast Regional to represent Georgia August 4-9 in Warner Robins. The state champions from Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia will also be in the regional.
