Bartow golfer Surcey wins Georgia Junior state title

Christina Brooke Surcey won the Georgia Junior Golf state championship at Eagles Landing Country Club last week.

Surcey, 11, shot 45-44 over two days of 9-hole competition to defeat Haven Ward of Atlanta by two strokes in the 13-and-under division of the 9-Hole Championship.

She had qualified for the championship by finishing tied for first in the eight tournament standings accumulated this summer.

The win qualified her for the Georgia Sub-Regional of the Drive, Chip and Putt competition, the PGA’s premier showcase for younger golfers.

The Drive, Chip, and Putt competition will take place on Sunday.

Surcey is coached by Bill Hassell at Cartersville Country Club. She will attend Cass Middle School in the fall.
