Bartow 8U remains unbeaten at GRPA state tourney, Cartersville 8U advances


The Bartow County 8-and-under coach pitch baseball team won its second straight game to open the 2017 Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State Tournament Wednesday night in Calhoun with an 11-3 victory over Calhoun.


Wednesday’s win comes on the heels of an opening round 20-10 win over Rockmart Tuesday.


Meanwhile, Cartersville 8-and-under coach pitch won a pair of elimination games Wednesday night to stay alive in the double-elimination tournament. Cartersville, who fell to Gainesville Tuesday night, defeated Clayton County 18-10 and Calhoun 19-12 Wednesday evening.


Bartow (2-0) plays Gordon County (2-0) Thursday at 5pm in Calhoun in a battle of the two remaining unbeaten teams in the state tournament. Cartersville (2-1) takes on Rockmart (2-1) at 6:30pm and the winner of that game will play the loser of the Bartow/Gordon game Thursday at 8pm. The Bartow/Gordon winner will advance to Friday’s championship round.


At the GRPA 12U Tradional Baseball State Tournament in Effingham County, Bartow 12U lost its first game of the tournament to Ware County Wednesday afternoon, 14-4.


Bartow plays Moultrie-Colquitt County in an elimination game Thursday morning at 9:30am and would play again at 1:30pm with a victory.
