Bartow 8U wins state tourney opener
The Bartow County 8-and-under coach pitch baseball team won its opening game at the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State Tournament Tuesday night over Rockmart, 20-10, in Calhoun.
Bartow 8U took a 10-2 lead through four and one-half innings, but Rockmart scored eight times in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game 10-10. Bartow then rallied for a 10-run sixth inning to put the game away.
Bartow 8U advances in the double-elimination tournament to play host Calhoun Wednesday at 5pm at Calhoun Park.
In other games Tuesday at the 8U Coach Pitch State Tournament, Gordon County defeated Clayton County 13-11 and Gainesville defeated Cartersville, 28-8.
Cartersville 8U will play Clayton County Wednesday in an elimination game at Calhoun Park at 6:30pm.
The 8U GRPA Coach Pitch Baseball State Tournament continues through Friday night.
Bartow County’s 12U GRPA baseball team will open play at the 12U Traditional State Tournament in Effingham County Wednesday afternoon at 1pm. Bartow will play the winner of a Wednesday morning game between Effingham County and Ware County.
The double-elimination 12U GRPA Baseball State Traditional Tournament continues through Saturday.
The Cartersville Little League 9-11-year-old all-star team was eliminated from the Georgia Little League 9-11-year-old state tournament Monday night with a 13-8 loss to Peachtree City American at the Cartersville Little League Complex. Northern (Columbus), Washington-Wilkes, Warner Robins American West and Smyrna Blue remain in contention for the state title. The double-elimination tournament continues Friday night with a potential “if needed” game scheduled for Saturday morning.
The Bartow County Little League Softball 12U team was eliminated from the Georgia State Little League Softball Tournament Monday night. Bartow fell to West Point 15-0 for their second loss in the double-elimination event.
