Bartow youth baseball teams rack up Monday wins at GRPA tournaments


Three teams representing the Bartow County Recreation Department collected opening wins Monday night at Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) District 5 Tournaments.


A pair of 10-and-under baseball teams picked up wins for BCRD along with a 12-and-under baseball team.


The Cartersville Recreation Department 10-and-under baseball teams split their opening round games.


Each GRPA District 5 tournament is double-elimination and continues through either Friday night or Saturday.

10U GRPA District 5 Baseball ​​

10U Bartow County #2 7, Rockmart 6


Bartow 10U #2 prevailed in a back-and-forth battle with Rockmart Monday night at Westside Park in Whitfield County when Connor Lujan’s groundout scored the winning run in the bottom of the fifth for a 7-6 win.


Jett Johnson was 2-for-2 with three RBIs to help lead Bartow #2. Righley Worthington was also 2-for-2 with a double. Lujan finished 2-for-3 at the plate and Malachi Linley was 1-for-2 with a stolen base.


Bartow starting pitcher Kaiden Pirkle (3.2 IP, 5K) started on the mound for Bartow. Lujan (1.1 IP, 4K) entered in the fourth inning and picked up the win in relief.


Bartow 10U #2 plays Cartersville #1 Tuesday night at 8 pm at Westside Park Field 4.


Cartersville #1 shutout Rome Monday night, 5-0.




10U Bartow County #1 13, Cartersville 5


Bartow 10U #1 scored nine first inning runs Monday night to take an early lead and then held on for a 13-5 victory in the opening round of the GRPA District 5 tournament at Westside Park in Whitfield County.


Caleb Freeman and Trevon Smith were both 3-for-3 at the plate to help lead the Bartow #1 offense. Cameron Adams and David Jinks both went 2-for-3.


Bartow #1 starting pitcher, Christopher Romo (2.2 IP, 3K) earned the pitching win. Freeman (1.1 IP, 2K) closed out the game on the mound.


Bartow #1 plays Calhoun Tuesday at 8 pm at Westside Park Field 2. Calhoun defeated Whitfield County Monday night, 11-1.




12U GRPA District 5 Baseball


Bartow 10, Rome 8


A five-run top of the fifth inning helped Bartow come-from-behind to defeat Rome 10-8 Monday night in an opening round game at the GRPA District 5 12-and-under Traditional Tournament at Westside Park in Whitfield County.


Bartow trailed 6-5 heading into the fifth inning when Mark Perdue opened the frame by reaching on an error. Logan O’Neal followed with a single and — after a pair of walks — Todd Gaddy drove in a run with an RBI single. Caleb Wiley rounded out the big Bartow inning with a two-RBI double.


Wiley finished 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Mason Williams was 1-for-2 with a walk. O’Neal, Dawson Craig, and Gaddy were 1-for-3 each.


Perdue (2 IP, 5K) started on the mound for Bartow. Williams (1 IP, 2K) and Craig (1 IP, 1K) worked in middle relief. O’Neal (2 IP, 3K) closed out the game on the mound and picked up the win.


Bartow plays Wednesday at 8 pm at Westside Park Field 1 against the Whitfield County/Rockmart winner from Tuesday night.
