Cartersville Little League 8-9-year-old Sandlot Division team wins Northwest Section Tourney
The Cartersville Little League 8-9-year-old Sandlot Division baseball team used three different three-run innings Thursday night on their way to a 10-2 win over Smyrna Little League Blue in the Georgia Little League Northwest Georgia Sectional championship game.
Cartersville, hosting the Northwest Section tournament at Joe Frank Harris Field in Atco, took a 4-1 lead after two innings and then added three runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth inning.
Smyrna only managed single runs in the first and fifth frames.
Logan Buchanan (2.2 IP, 1R, 0ER, 2H, 5BB, 3K) and Will Camp (3.1 IP, 1R, 0ER, 2H, 2BB, 3K) took care of business on the mound for Cartersville and combined on a four-hitter without allowing an earned run.
Harris Turner and Camp had two hits and one RBI each at the top of Cartersville’s order. One of Turner’s hits was a double, he scored three runs and stole a base. Camp swiped two bases and scored one run.
Kamdyn Woods added a triple and two RBIs. Griffin Woodall had one hit, one RBI, and scored a run. Sydney Seigler also contributed a hit and scored a pair of runs. Buchanan scored one run and drove in two. Asa Mitcham reached base in all four at-bats with walks, stole two bases, and scored twice. J.P. Gooch had one steal and coaxed a pair of walks.
With Thursday’s Northwest Georgia Section title victory, the Cartersville Little League 8-9-year-old Sandlot Division team advances to the Georgia Little League Sandlot State Tournament that begins June 17 in Warner Robins.
CARTERSVILLE LITTLE LEAGUE ROOKIE TEAM FALLS IN SECTION SEMIFINALS
The Cartersville Little League 7-8-year-old Rookie Division team went 2-0 in pool play to reach the single-elimination semifinals of bracket play at the Georgia Little League Northwest Section Tournament in Smyrna, but was eliminated Thursday night by Rockmart Little League, 13-3.
Cartersville, who had pool play wins last Saturday and Tuesday over Peachtree City and Smyrna Red, fell behind in the second and third innings when Rockmart posted eleven runs.
Cartersville led 2-1 after one inning, but Rockmart scored five runs in the second and six more in the third to take a 12-2 lead. Cartersville added one more run in the third inning and Rockmart added another run in the fifth.
Carter Callan (1 IP, 2R, 1ER, 1H, 1BB, 3K), Cash Priest (0.2 IP, 4R, 3ER, 1H, 3BB), Dawson Ray (1.1 IP, 6R, 3ER, 2H, 3BB, 2K), and Weston Barfield (2 IP, 1R, 0ER, 0H, 2BB, 6K) each took the mound for Cartersville in the loss.
Cartersville scored their three runs without a hit.
Priest scored twice after a pair of walks. He stole four bases. Barfield scored the other Cartersville run and had a walk and a stolen base.
With the loss, the Cartersville 7-8-year-old A-Team will prepare for the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) District Tournament that opens June 17 in Dalton and Calhoun.
