Cartersville LL Rookie, Sandlot teams open with NW Georgia Section wins


Cartersville Little League's 7-8-year old Rookie Team and 8-9-year-old Sandlot Team both won opening games at their Northwest Georgia Section Tournaments Saturday.


Also, the Cartersville Little League 7-8-year old Team B won the District 1 B-Tournament May 24-28 in Rockmart.

 

CARTERSVILLE LL 7/8 ROOKIE TEAM A 21, PEACHTREE CITY LL 3



The Cartersville Little League Rookie Team (7-8-year old Team A) pounded Peachtree City Little League Saturday in both teams opening game of the Georgia Little League Rookie Sectional at Brinkley Park in Smyrna.



Cartersville scored the maximum seven runs in each of its three offensive frames to win 21-3.


Cartersville utilized five pitchers including Zachary Hall, Cole Henson, Dawson Ray, Garrett Hewlett, and Cash Priest. The quintet combined to allow only one earned run on two hits. Hall struck out six and the group combined for 11 strikeouts.


On offense, Carter Callan had a double and scored three runs. Priest and Dallen Fuqua both had one hit, one RBI, and scored three times. Payton Paul and Hewlett added one hit each and both crossed the plate twice. Cartersville (1-0) took advantage of 17 walks.


Weston Barfield and Hall both scored two runs. Ray, Cole Henson, Blake Genrich, and Robert Barker Jr. scored one run each.


Cartersville faces Smyrna Red Sunday at 11 am in their next pool game.





CARTERSVILLE LL 8/9 SANDLOT 10, EAST MARIETTA NATIONAL 7


The Cartersville Little League (8-9-year-old) Sandlot Team scored seven runs in the second inning Saturday and then held off a late charge by East Marietta National Little League for a 10-7 win in both teams’ opening preliminary pool play game of the 2017 Northwest Georgia 8/9 Sandlot Baseball Tournament.


The tournament is being hosted by Cartersville Little League at Joe Frank Harris Field in Atco.


Cartersville took an 8-1 lead after two innings, but East Marietta scored two runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to narrow the margin to 8-7. Cartersville then posted two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure a three-run win.


Logan Buchanan had a double, two RBIs, and scored a run for Cartersville. Harris Turner also doubled with one RBI and scored two runs. Kamdyn Woods had the other Cartersville hit, drove in two runs, and scored one.


Will Camp contributed one RBI and scored a run. Asa Mitcham drove in one run, scored a run, and stole a base. Sydney Seigler and Bear McWhorter each added one RBI, while J.P. Gooch scored twice and Griffin Woodall and Peyton Emery added one run scored each.


Cartersville used three pitchers — Will C (3.2 IP, 3R, 2ER, 3H, 4BB, 5K); Logan B (0.1 IP, 4R, 3ER, 0H, 4BB, 1K); and Griffin W (1 IP, 0R, 2BB, 2K) — in the contest.


Cartersville’s second preliminary pool game is Sunday at 3 pm against Smyrna Little League Blue at Joe Frank Harris Field.


The championship game is scheduled for Tuesday at 7 pm between the top two finishers from the three teams in pool play.






CARTERSVILLE LL 7/8 ROOKIE TEAM B WINS DISTRICT 1



The Cartersville Little League (7-8-year old Team B) Rookie Team won its District 1 playoff series over Rockmart Little League at Nathan Dean Park in Rockmart May 24-28.


Cartersville took the best-of-five game series, three games to one.


Cartersville won Game 1 of the series 12-8 and Rockmart evened the series in Game 2 by edging Cartersville 20-19. The locals then won the next two games 16-6 and 13-12 to close out the series.
