Tigers' season closes with road loss


The Adairsville High School baseball team dropped their final game of the 2017 season Friday at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, 5-4.


The host Warriors scored three runs in the first inning to take a 3-1 lead and then added two more in the fourth to go up 5-1.


Adairsville rallied late with a three run sixth inning to narrow the margin to 5-4, but the Tigers failed to do any further damage in the final frame.


Kyler Pelfrey led off the game with a solo home run and added an RBI single in the Tigers’ three-run sixth. Adairsville took advantage of a walk and two hit batsmen in the inning. Levi Atkinson also drove in a run on a sixth-inning fielder’s choice.


Garren Mauldin (6 IP, 4ER, 5H, 4BB, 7K) was the winning pitcher for the Warriors. Logan Gruetter (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 0BB) earned a save in the seventh.


Chase Powell (3.2 IP, 5R, 3ER, 5H, 2BB, 1K) suffered the pitching loss for the Tigers. Garrett Mishoe (2 IP, 0R, 1H, 4BB, 4K) worked in middle relief and Taylor Whitley (0.1 IP, 0R, 0H) retired the final out for Adairsville on the mound.


Andrew Brock led Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe at the plate with two hits and two RBIs.


Sam Seaman had two hits including a double for Adairsville. Caden Gibbs added a double and Whitley had one hit.


LFO wrapped up the season 12-17 overall and 5-13 in region play.


Adairsville closed the year 10-19 overall and 5-13 in Region 6AAA.
