Woodland closes season with win over Hiram
The Woodland baseball team led 4-1 after only two innings Friday night in their Senior Night game at The Ballpark at Woodland and scored four more times in the fifth inning to take an 8-2 advantage on their way to a season-ending 8-4 win over Hiram.
The win helped the Wildcats to an 18-10 overall record for the season and 9-7 mark in Region 7-AAAAA, but Woodland came up one win short in their chase for the state playoffs.
Villa Rica edged Paulding County 2-1 Friday to finish 10-6 in region play and eliminate Woodland.
Carrollton won the region with a 14-2 region record. The Trojans were followed by East Paulding 11-5, Kell 10-6, and Villa Rica 10-6.
Woodland’s Garrett Pope (6 IP, 3R, 2ER, 6H, 0BB, 7K) tossed six strong innings Friday night for the Wildcats. Tommy Peed (1 IP, 1ER, 2H, 1BB, 1K) pitched the seventh.
Brycen Kellet and Jacob Frye had two hits and one RBI each for Woodland. Koby Stansel drove in two runs with one hit. Cauy Williams (RBI), Hunter Reaid, and Brandon Allen had one hit each. Jacob Harper and Noah Ludy each had one RBI.
Avery Ragsdale (4 IP, 5R, 4ER, 6H, 3BB, 3K) was the losing pitcher for Hiram, but had two hits in the game and scored twice. Josh Franklyn and Levi Walker also had two hits each for the Hornets.
Hiram slipped to 4-25 on the season and 2-14 in Region 7-AAAAA.
Woodland finished 18-10 overall and 9-7 in the region.
