Soccer roundup: Cartersville boys complete region slate unbeaten; Lady Colonels win; Cass boys cont
The Cartersville boys secured the top seed in Region 5AAAA for the state playoffs with a 4-0 shutout at Sandy Creek Friday night.
Jake Hacker scored two goals, Pedro Ghanem and Cesar Abeja added one goal each. Grant Farmer contributed two assists.
Goalkeeper Cade Roberts earned the shutout in net.
Cartersville (13-1-2, 6-0 Region 5AAAA) plays Sonoraville next Friday and will host the opening round of the Class AAAA state playoffs April 26.
CASS GIRLS 1, NORTH SPRINGS 0
The Cass girls soccer team wrapped up its 2017 season with a 1-0 defeat of visiting North Springs Friday at Doug Cochran Stadium.
Kelsey Rivera scored the Cass goal from an assist by Lupita Pineda in the second half.
NORTH SPRINGS BOYS 6, CASS 4
The Cass boys soccer team led visiting North Springs 4-3 at the intermission, but the Spartans scored three second half goals and shutdown the Colonels’ scoring attack to defeat the Colonels, 6-4.
Anthony Robledo scored three goals for Cass. Jorge Cabanos also scored a goal.
Cabanos, Brandon Romero, Julio Medina, and Jackson Laurent each contributed assists.
Romero recorded eight saves in net for the Colonels.
The Colonels play the second half of a suspended game at Kell Saturday at 6pm. Cass is leading 2-1 with only the second half remaining. The winner of that game advances to the state playoffs.
