Cartersville blanks Pepperell at Rawlings tourney


Cartersville made short work of Pepperell Friday night at LakePoint in a 10-0, five-inning, run-rule win that was the Canes’ third game of the 2017 Rawlings Classic.


The win makes Cartersville 3-0 in the event.


J.P. Martin (photo) scattered a pair of hits and struck out six in four innings on the mound for Cartersville. Martin earned the pitching win and John Reed Evans needed only six pitches to get through a spotless fifth inning to close out the game.


Cartersville scored five runs in the second and five more in the fourth to secure the win.


Anthony Seigler and Preston Welchel (photo right) had two hits and two RBIs each for the Canes. Devin Warner hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning.


Noah Daniel (RBI), Martin, and Jordan Wilkie had the other Cartersville hits.


The Dragons slipped to 9-13 for the season with the loss.


Cartersville (18-6) will play Centennial Saturday at 2pm.
